Guide to Evaluation Serivces for Children
Every child’s situation is different, and there’s no single “right” starting point. Below are some common situations that help families decide which service fits best. If you’re still unsure, our evaluation team can help guide you.
Autism Screening & Consultation
Families often choose this when…
- They’re noticing developmental or social differences, but aren’t sure what they mean
- A teacher or pediatrician mentioned concerns, and they want expert input first
- They want to talk through behaviors before committing to full testing
- They feel unsure whether an evaluation is truly necessary
This is often the gentlest first step when families want clarity and professional guidance.

Parent Guidance & Next Steps
Families often choose this when…
- They already received an evaluation report
- Recommendations feel overwhelming or unclear
- They need help translating results into school supports or treatment plans
- They want to feel confident about what to do next
This service helps turn information into an actionable plan.

Consultative Services
Families often choose this when…
- They want expert advice about behavior, school placement, or development
- They need professional input for a school meeting or treatment decision
- They aren’t ready for full testing, but want guidance from a specialist
This is ideal when families need direction rather than a diagnosis.

Virtual Autism Services (Texas-wide, ages 4 and under)
Families often choose this when…
- They live outside the Dallas–Fort Worth area
- Travel or scheduling makes an in-person evaluation difficult
- Their child functions best in their familiar home environment
- Early providers have already expressed autism concerns
This option allows young children to access expert diagnostic care while reducing barriers to services.

Second Opinions & Diagnostic Clarification
Families often choose this when…
- They’ve already completed an evaluation, but still feel uncertain
- The diagnosis doesn’t seem to fully explain their child
- Schools or providers are requesting additional clarification
- They want confirmation before making major decisions
This service offers an experienced, independent clinical perspective.

Focused Autism Confirmation
Families often choose this when…
- Previous testing or providers strongly suggest autism
- Documentation is needed for school, therapy, or insurance services
- They want a streamlined diagnostic process
- They don’t need a full learning or psychological profile
This evaluation is designed to provide clear diagnostic confirmation efficiently.

Comprehensive Evaluation
Families often choose this when…
- They want a full understanding of how their child learns, thinks, and functions
- Their child has multiple challenges (learning, behavior, social, emotional, and/or developmental)
- School struggles don’t have one clear explanation
- Previous supports haven’t fully worked
- They want one evaluation that answers all major questions at once
- They want the strongest documentation for school planning and long-term support
This is the most complete assessment and provides the deepest level of understanding, diagnosis, and recommendations.
Many families ultimately choose a comprehensive evaluation when they want clarity, not just answers to one specific question.
